MediaConvert Transcode

Function

Provides a direct integration between BLAM and the AWS Elemental Media Convert service. The BLidget enables fully automated, on demand, transcode function to be managed from within a workflow.

Benefits

There is no easier way to create derivative types of asset essence for material stored in AWS S3 than by using Elemental MediaConvert.  By defining rules-based workflows, BLAM manages the process – to ensure that the correct formats are created when needed – and workload, managing priority and queuing to deliver a highly efficient, fully automated capability.

About MediaConvert

AWS Elemental MediaConvert is a file-based video transcoding service with broadcast-grade features. It allows operators to easily create video-on-demand (VOD) content for broadcast and multiscreen delivery at scale. The service combines advanced video and audio capabilities with a simple web services interface and pay-as-you-go pricing. With AWS Elemental MediaConvert, you can focus on delivering compelling media experiences without having to worry about the complexity of building and operating your own video processing infrastructure.

How it Works

The MediaConvert connector BLidget is typically deployed in workflows specific to media conversion, (which are called as required from other workflows) or complex WorkOrders as part of a delivery function, or as part of a content normalisation process.

The BLidget allows operators to call either ‘Presets’ or ‘Templates’ configured within the MediaConvert console, or from one of a number of presets ‘baked into’ the BLidget.  Control over the audio mapping is also provided as a configuration option. Control is provided for source and target buckets as well as the output key structure (including full metadata interpolation).

Operators may also specify a MediaConvert queue and priority on the job, the BLAM workflow prioritisation sits at the next level up affording dynamic workload management. Whilst the BLidget is running on any given file, real time status updates by way of progress are shown in the Workflow Monitor view.

  • Generate Browse (MediaConvert)

This simple BLidget will create a browse / proxy version of input video media without the need for operator configuration.  By default it will create a browse version of material at native resolution at 2Mb/s although these may be overridden.  The BLidget is designed to delivery standardisation across a distributed platform, i.e., one that spans operational centres.

BLAM Workflow Runner (WFR) manages job queuing & prioritisation within the BLAM and at the AWS MediaConvert level for maximum control.
